Youth Ministry at a Glance

St. Christopher Youth Ministry invites young people in grades 6-12 to be actively involved in the life of the parish, especially in the areas of liturgy, faith formation, service and community building. Youth Ministry offers the chance to grow in love for Christ and share Christ’s service to others. Young people create friendships, develop leadership skills and nurture the value of striving to follow Jesus’ example.

WHAT DO YOUTH DO?

FAITH + SERVICE = 100% FUN!!!!

MORNING DROP OFF Youth are encouraged to arrive a little early  between 7:40am-7:50am to check-in & chat with friends before SOS begins.

FAITH FORMATION High School peer leaders engage the youth in small group activities and faith discussions based on the daily Scripture readings and Catholic Social Justice teachings.

MASS We will attend daily Mass together at 9am-9:30am.

GROUP WORK SITES Youth will break up into their work site groups for the day (typically try to keep friends together in groups no larger than 6). Parent Volunteers will drive their small group to the designated work site location.

TYPES OF WORK SITES:The pandemic still affects some of the availability of some of our favorite volunteer sites. Typical volunteer locations include working at local parks, outdoor clean up, painting, landscaping, working with people with disabilities and the elderly, maintaining and harvesting community gardens, working alongside the Sisters of the Precious Blood, etc…

LUNCH Youth are to pack a hearty lunch and bring plenty of water with them while working. The youth still have a big day of social activity ahead of them, so please make sure they have packed enough to eat.

SOCIAL SITE After lunch, we load up into the St. Christopher bus and depart for our social site. In years past, youth have enjoyed outings such as canoeing trips, bowling, skating, putt-putt golf, swimming, and of course a classic favorite for many: Kings Island (on the last SOS date).

MEET THE YOUTH MINISTER
Hey there - I'm so blessed to be in ministry here at my home parish! I'm a St. Chris alum,  born and raised right here in Vandalia, where I now live with my big-ol' fam of five loud and crazy kids (4 girls and 1 boy), my hubby (my buddy, my pal, and our ring-leader), one flabby lab, and two cool cats...it's quite the crew 🙂 I am so incredibly in love with Jesus and the way that He has impacted my life: pursued me, called me, and transformed me ... time and time again! It's a love I am so excited to share with your teens...and that's really my approach in ministry: "I've got a BEST friend, a TRUE friend in Jesus...allow me to introduce Him to you"  OR "Oh my gosh, you know Him too - so let's talk!!!" LOL - So I love to have fun...and even more so, fun in and with the Lord and all my lil' bros/sisters he's blessed me with through ministry. 🙂
