“Do not let anyone look down on you because you are young but be an example for the believers in your speech, your conduct, your love, faith, and purity.”

1 Timothy 4:12

Youth Ministry at a Glance

St. Christopher Youth Ministry invites young people in grades 6-12 to be actively involved in the life of the parish, especially in the areas of liturgy, faith formation, service and community building. Youth Ministry offers the chance to grow in love for Christ and share Christ’s service to others. Young people create friendships, develop leadership skills and nurture the value of striving to follow Jesus’ example.

HELLO & wELCOME
Hey there - I'm so blessed to be in ministry here at my home parish! I'm a St. Chris alum,  born and raised right here in Vandalia, where I now live with my big-ol' fam of five loud and crazy kids (4 girls and 1 boy), my hubby (my buddy, my pal, and our ring-leader), one flabby lab, and two cool cats...it's quite the crew 🙂 I am so incredibly in love with Jesus and the way that He has impacted my life: pursued me, called me, and transformed me ... time and time again! It's a love I am so excited to share with your teens...and that's really my approach in ministry: "I've got a BEST friend, a TRUE friend in Jesus...allow me to introduce Him to you"  OR "Oh my gosh, you know Him too - so let's talk!!!" LOL - So I love to have fun...and even more so, fun in and with the Lord and all my lil' bros/sisters he's blessed me with through ministry. 🙂

HERE'S THE SCOOP
SUMMER PREPPING – FOR ALL YM GRADES 6-12

Well…things are sloooowly coming together for some sort of summer YM plans. Although it will certainly be an atypical summer with mission trip and without SOS as we typically know it to be, I hope to be able to provide the youth a “safe” way to still gather in smaller groups throughout this summer for fellowship, prayer, service opportunities, and still have some fun making great memories with friends. I had planned on things being in a bit better shape as far as this whole COVID-stuff, but it is what it is right now.

So…..here is what I do know (short version):

It’s gotta be in small groups and we are limited in what we are safely able to do…
DATES I’M LOOKING AT:  JUNE 23 |  JUNE 25 | JUNE 30 |  JULY 2 | JULY 7 | JULY 9 | JULY 14 | JULY 16 | JULY 21 | JULY 23
SMALL GROUPS  WOULD BE INTEREST BASED  –  only meeting on 1 or 2 certain dates from list above

IE: Planning, Cleaning, Painting, Building, Gardening, Art, Music,

EVERYTHING WOULD BE DONE ON SITE AT THE ST. CHRIS CAMPUS

No Social Outings 🙁

VIRTUAL OPPORTUNITIES ALSO AVAILABLE

Although I am still finalizing much of what this will look like for the summer, I am excited that it will be a parish service opportunity that all YM youth can participate in and take ownership of.

DETAILS AND PLAN TO BE EMAILED OUT AND POSTED HERE IN EARLY JUNE.
SUMMER YM
UPDATE [5/1/20]: In a recent meeting, it was decided that the AIY Mission Trip will have to cancel for this summer. A back-up plan is being hatched to offer small group service and faith formation opportunities here on the parish campus. Please check back for further details on the alternate plan.
SOS UPDATE [5/4/20]:
JUNE-ISH AND JULY-ISH
DATES TO BE RE-DETERMINED
Hmmm… it looks like we’re all in the same boat as far as volunteer organizations go. But, where there’s a will, there’s a way … within regulations and six feet…add a few good prayers in that too!!! So I’m currently placing to the side (not scrapping) my original SOS plans and drafting up plan B. The Jr. High youth always look forward to SOS during the summer and it’s a program I still intend to provide for them, however in an adjusted form.

Either way, I still need to know, at the very least, any intent for youth wanting to participate in SOS (or an SOS-ish) program this summer. Parents, I know all this unknown is craziness to even think about signing your child up for anything that hasn’t been fully planned yet, but numbers matter when it comes to this program and it’s not something I can easily adjust last minute, especially with the adjustments I’m already facing.

So – I am starting off by removing any fees for the program at this time and have modified the form to allow for you to sign your current 6th or current 7th grader up for SOS solely based on interest alone at this time. I’ll leave the “about SOS” unedited on the YM website for now in case you are curious about what SOS traditionally looks like. Just know that I am working on the modifications of the program to fit DeWine’s guidelines. 🙂

If you are interested in signing your teen up for SOS, please fill out the interest form by no later than May 15. Visit the SOS Tab in this section to sign up.

WHAT DOES “ALOHA” MEAN ANYWAY?

In searching the meaning of the Hawaiian word “aloha”, you will find that it is a term used both when greeting someone and also saying goodbye. It actually holds a much deeper, spiritual significance of love, peace, compassion, and mercy. So for our Class of 2020, we found this term to be very fitting for this class at this very celebration as we come together to join and celebrate, as well as wish them all love, peace, compassion, and mercy on the path laid out before them.
